The most common source of relationship failure, career stagnation, and self-betrayal I see in men is not a lack of competence or effort. It's the consistent avoidance of necessary conversations. Avoidance is always more expensive than the conversation.

The Framework

Prepare, don't script. Know what you're trying to accomplish. Don't write a script.

Speak from your experience. 'Your behavior is unacceptable' is easy to deflect. 'When this happens, here's what it creates for me' is much harder to argue with.

Be direct without being brutal. You can say a hard thing clearly and with genuine care for the person.

Pursue resolution, not victory. The goal is a better situation, not a won argument.
