The self-made man is the most pervasive and most damaging myth in American masculine culture. It's a lie. And the men who believe it most fervently are the men most isolated, most exhausted, and most brittle under pressure.

What This Means for You

First: seek help deliberately. The man who refuses to ask for guidance because he needs to do it himself is not being strong. He's being fragile with his self-image at the cost of his actual effectiveness.

Second: build others. The purpose of having been built by others is to become one who builds others. Mentorship, honest feedback, genuine support — these are not distractions from your own growth.
